TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Tucson police are looking into an allegation of time-card fraud by some firefighters.

The Arizona Daily Star reported (https://bit.ly/VtETrD) Saturday that authorities have been investigating the matter since April.

According to an Aug. 3 memo to the department, Tucson Fire Chief James Critchley learned of problems involving how some fire employees were reporting their hours worked.

Critchley says the potential for criminal charges led to him asking police to investigate and detectives would begin interviewing employees for witness accounts.

Officials declined to comment on the investigation or say how many personnel may be involved.

Critchley says some policy changes may be made.

Mayor Jonathan Rothschild says the appropriate action will be taken if any misconduct is found.
