OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) - Officials in Ocean Springs have approved a contract proposal to repair damaged sidewalks at Front Beach.

WLOX-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1oE8SnE) the Board of Aldermen accepted a bid of $46,000 from Landmark Contracting.

Sidewalk repairs could begin Sept. 1 and be completed by Oct. 1.

A 250-foot section of sidewalk along Front Beach was washed out by a combination of recent rains and strong wave action. Engineers determined the walkway wasn’t designed to withstand waves crashing into it.

A new sidewalk will be connected to the existing seawall, which engineers say will provide more protection for the concrete surface.

Once the sidewalk repairs are finished, Ocean Springs officials plan to seek bids on a landscaping plan for the Front Beach area.
