RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - Striker Fred continues to struggle in Brazil, with some Fluminense fans demanding his departure after another disappointing performance in the Brazilian league.

Fans painted “Out Fred” on a wall at the team’s headquarters early Monday, a day after Fred missed a late penalty kick in Fluminense’s 2-0 loss to rival Botafogo at the Maracana Stadium.

Fred performed poorly with Brazil at the World Cup, scoring only one goal in seven matches, prompting severe criticism from fans and local media.

He has scored only once in four matches with Fluminense since returning from the World Cup, and the goal came in a disappointing Brazilian Cup loss last week.

Fred was visibly upset when asked by reporters about his slump on Sunday, saying that “all players have to accept their responsibility.”
