TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - A former leader of the Latin Kings street gang in Trenton has told a judge that he’s ready to face a third trial on charges that he killed a woman because she witnessed a kidnapping.

The Times of Trenton reports (https://bit.ly/1tgryhu) that Jose Negrete, known as “Boom Bat” told a Superior Court judge Monday that he’s been fighting for his innocence for the last 10 years. The trial was set for Feb. 9.

A New Jersey appeals court threw out the murder conviction last year because of a juror’s misconduct. Negrete was convicted in 2009 of killing Jeri Lynn Dotson in August 2004 and attempting to murder her roommate, Alex “Alkey” Ruiz in Trenton.

Prosecutors said Dotson was gunned down because she had witnessed Ruiz’s abduction. Dotson was a “queen” in the gang.
