HARRISON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - Police say a man in his 20s has drowned while swimming at Lake St. Clair Metropark in the Detroit area.

Huron-Clinton Metroparks Police Chief George Phifer says the St. Clair Shores man was in a designated beach swimming area Sunday night when his friends noticed he was in distress. The man’s friends went into the water and lifeguards responded from a nearby swimming pool. It took about five or 10 minutes for responders to locate him.

Phifer says the man was unresponsive when he was pulled from the water. Lifeguards performed CPR and a park official used a defibrillator.

Harrison Township firefighters rushed him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

This is the third drowning at Huron-Clinton Metroparks this summer.
