SHELBY, N.C. (AP) - The big amateur tournament for some of the country’s best teenage baseball players is wrapping up in North Carolina.

The American Legion World Series championship is being decided Tuesday evening in Shelby in a game being televised on the ESPNU sports network.

The tournament for 15- to 19-year-olds playing on American Legion baseball teams around the country began last Thursday. Shelby, in Cleveland County, has been the home of the tournament for the past four years.

Crowds have routinely filled the 5,000-seat stadium at Shelby High School that rivals a minor league baseball park. Organizers hope to top last year’s series attendance of 104,000.
