EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - A Snohomish County sheriff’s spokeswoman says members of the county’s violent offender task force have arrested a man police believe robbed at least five Washington banks last month.

Spokeswoman Shari Ireton said the 40-year-old Woodinville man was arrested Tuesday after a foot chase involving a canine team. Ireton says a gun that the man tossed during the chase was recovered.

The man was turned over to the FBI. His name was not immediately released. He had been termed the “Alabama Band Bandit” because of a hat worn in one holdup.

The spokeswoman says law enforcement officers believe the man is responsible for July robberies at a Bank of America branch in Lynnwood, a Whidbey Island Bank branch in Shoreline and a Wells Fargo branch in Lynnwood, as well as two holdups at Washington Federal branches in Bellingham.
