CHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) - No serious injuries were reported after debris that fell from an overpass on Interstate 495 in Chelmsford struck the windshield of a passing car.

State transportation officials closed two lanes of the northbound lanes of the highway for emergency repairs after the incident on Tuesday. All lanes were later reopened but traffic was backed up for miles.

Lisa Camara said she was driving behind her mother’s car when she saw the piece of steel fall from the Route 3A bridge and hit her mother’s car on the passenger side where Camara’s daughter was seated.

The 12-year-old girl suffered minor cuts.
