HARRIMAN, Tenn. (AP) - Harriman police officers killed a 28-year-old woman after they say she pointed a handgun at them as they responded to a burglary call.

According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, Harriman officers were responding to the burglary call Tuesday afternoon when they saw the suspect vehicle. The TBI says driver Miranda Michelle Guy fled in the vehicle, stopping at a residence and running inside.

Officers followed her. That’s when they say Guy retrieved a handgun and pointed it at them. Shots were fired and Guy was struck. She was taken to the Roane Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The TBI is investigating the shooting at the request of 9th Judicial District Attorney General Russell Johnson.

The agency has not publicly identified the officers involved.
