VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Vicksburg city officials say unused money from a 2007 bond issue will fund construction projects in the upcoming 2015 budget year.

City Accounting Director Doug Whittington tells The Vicksburg Post (https://bit.ly/1oVqvzs) that about $1.1 million remains in the bond issue’s account

The money could go to cover a new roof and lighting controls for the Vicksburg Convention Center, estimated at $454,000. Other spending possibilities include a $350,000 pavilion roof at a park and $130,000 for a new roof and asbestos removal at the city’s vehicle maintenance garage.

The Board of Mayor and Alderman is expected to meet Friday to finalize a budget estimated at nearly $30 million.

Mayor George Flaggs says falling casino revenue means the city is cutting its planned gambling receipts by 18 percent for 2015.
