ROCKLAND, Maine (AP) - Law enforcement officials say three people suffered minor injuries when a go-kart operated by the Shriners went out of control and rode onto a sidewalk along the Maine Lobster Festival parade route.

Rockland Deputy Police Chief Wally Tower says a 43-year-old man and a 9-year-old boy were treated at the scene Saturday and a 79-year-old woman was treated and released from a local hospital.

Tower told the Portland Press Herald (https://bit.ly/1rZHMyr ) the cause of the accident is under investigation.

Shriner go-kart accidents in Maine have occurred in recent years. In 2011, a Hancock Shriner was killed in a crash blamed on a mechanical failure during a parade in Damariscotta. A Vermont Shriner was injured in 2012 when his go-kart crashed into a trailer.
