RIVIERA BEACH, Fla. (AP) - Officials say nearly 300 sea turtle eggs have been reburied after being found in the possession of a poacher.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission reports that it received a tip Friday of a man who appeared to be taking turtle eggs from a St. Lucie County beach.

Authorities say 55-year-old James Odel McGriff of Riviera Beach was arrested after locating a disturbed turtle nest and a backpack full of eggs.

It’s not known if McGriff has obtained an attorney. He was arrested in 2002 after authorities say he sold turtle eggs to an undercover officer.
