HONOLULU (AP) - A 26-year-old car driver was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a crash that left a bicyclist in critical condition.

The Honolulu Star-Advertiser (https://bit.ly/1tsrXyG) reports the 62-year-old cyclist at 2:46 a.m. Thursday was on Ward Avenue turning left onto Lunalilo Street in a marked crosswalk when he was hit by a sedan.

A witness told police the sedan driver on Lunalilo Street did not fully stop for a red light has he turned right onto Ward Avenue.

Police Lt. Carlene Lau says the bicyclist crossed as the “do not walk” sign was flashing.

The bicyclist was taken to a hospital.

Police closed Ward Avenue in both directions for more than two hours.
