TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman says a deputy shot and wounded a knife-wielding man late Friday night in the Tacoma, Washington, area.

KOMO-TV reports (https://is.gd/Kmzptk ) that spokesman Jerry Bates says deputies were called to the Woodmark Apartments on a disturbance complaint.

Bates says a man answered the door at an apartment armed with a knife. The spokesman says the man charged at the deputies, forcing one of them to open fire.

The man’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
