SIERRA VISTA, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities rescued four people who became stranded on the San Pedro River while navigating a homemade raft.

The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office says a group of friends were floating on a raft they built when one called 911 around 7 p.m. Saturday.

The caller told authorities the water had become too low and it was too dark outside to continue the 10-mile route from Charleston Road near Sierra Vista to Highway 82 near Whetstone.

A Sheriff’s search and rescue team was able to locate all four, who live in Sierra Vista.

They were treated at the scene by Whetstone firefighters, including one person for mild hypothermia.

All four were able to leave the area on their own.
