CHICAGO (AP) - To fans in Chicago, it didn’t matter much that the Jackie Wilson West All Stars lost the Little League World championship game 8-4 to South Korea.

As the game ended Sunday afternoon, supporters who gathered for a TV watch party in a community center gym jumped to their feet, roared and clapped - as if the team had won.

The group of 11- and 12-year-old boys from Chicago became U.S. champions Saturday, leading to their showing in the world championship game.

Some of the players are from the same South Side neighborhood where Eldridge Dockery lives. Dockery says he’s never seen the community come together like it has over the Little Leaguers.

He says he hopes the good feeling that has infused the area lasts.
