BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - Defending champion River Plate thrashed Godoy Cruz 4-0 on Sunday to remain undefeated after the third round of Argentina’s first division.

River’s bitter Buenos Aires rivals Boca Juniors lost 3-0 to Atletico Rafaela earlier the same day, while Velez Sarsfield is the only team with a perfect record after beating Independiente 4-0 on Saturday.

In other games Sunday, Banfield beat San Lorenzo 2-0, Lanus defeated Estudiantes 2-1 and Defensa y Justicia drew 1-1 with Quilmes. In other Saturday games, Rosario Central beat Gimnasia 2-1 and Newell’s Old Boys drew 3-3 with Belgrano.

On Friday, Arsenal defeated Olimpo 1-0 and Tigre beat Racing Club 4-0.

Uruguay’s Carlos Sanchez volleyed in River Plate’s opener after two minutes, with Colombian Teofilo Gutierrez capitalizing on goalkeeper Sebastian Moyano’s poorly struck clearance in the 4th.

Rodrigo Mora volleyed in the third in the 16th and Gutierrez rounded off the scoring in the 63rd.

Atletico went ahead in the 36th thanks to a deflected free-kick from Mauricio Gomez. Federico Gonzalez scored from inside the penalty area ten minutes into the second half, with Guillermo Fernandez getting the final goal in the 73rd.

Lucas Pratto struck twice for Velez Sarsfield, with Lucas Romero and Leonardo Rolon netting once each - all in the second half.
