TUPELO, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi’s Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks says there’s progress toward reopening two major lakes in Lee County.

Elvis Presley Lake northeast of Tupelo was closed after the April 28 tornado. Saltillo’s Lake Lamar Bruce was closed in 2010 to repair a dam.

Assistant fisheries director Larry Bull tells the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal (https://bit.ly/1skSZ9n ) that most of the downed timber has been cleaned up around Elvis Presley Lake. But he says renovation has not begun to a damaged pavilion, office building and piers.

He says the state is taking repair bids and is working out money matters with the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

Bull says Lake Lamar Bruce has been stocked with more than 515,000 fish, and is scheduled to reopen in the spring.
