MIDDLETOWN, Del. (AP) - A bill signed into law by Gov. Jack Markell aims to protect student athletes from sudden cardiac arrest.
Markell signed the bill into law on Monday, the first day of school, at Middletown High School. It will require the Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association to draft regulations regarding sudden cardiac death.
Under the law, schools will see that all head coaches undergo CPR certification. Potential student athletes will answer questions about heart history before they take part in sports.
