AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A man has been charged with felonious assault and other crimes after authorities say he stole an Akron police cruiser with a woman in the back seat.

At a traffic stop around 2 a.m. Saturday, police say the woman was put in the cruiser because she didn’t have a license. When the officer went to retrieve the woman’s cellphone, a man jumped behind the wheel of the cruiser. Police say when the officer reached into the driver-side window to stop him, 19-year-old Shawn Douglas Jr. of Columbus drove off and knocked the officer to the ground. Police used a Taser to subdue Douglas after he stopped driving.

Court records don’t indicate if Douglas has an attorney yet.
