GOLDSBY, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma City police say an officer fatally shot a man who stabbed a police dog after a high-speed chase through two counties.
Capt. Dexter Nelson says the chase began Sunday night in Oklahoma City after a reported burglary. He says officers pursued the man on Interstate 35 before state troopers blew out his tire near Goldsby.
Nelson says the man then tried escape on foot and a police dog named Kye was deployed and caught him. Nelson says Sgt. Ryan Stark found the man stabbing the dog with a knife and fatally shot the man. Nelson says the dog was taken to a veterinarian in critical condition for surgery, but is expected to survive.
Stark was placed on paid administrative leave.
The man’s name hasn’t been released.
