VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Portions of Mississippi Highway 465 in Warren and Issaquena counties will be closed as the Army Corps of Engineers works to complete a Mississippi River levee enlargement project.
The Vicksburg Post reported (https://bit.ly/1veKzFd) that the levee roadway near Albermarle Lake and Goose Lake Road will be barricaded on the south end at intersection of Goose Lake Road and Mississippi 465 and on the north end it will be barricaded where the highway ramps up onto the Mississippi River Levee.
Another area affected by the project is near Lake Chotard and Laney’s Boat Camp. Roads there were blocked the week of Aug. 18.
Road work is expected to be completed during the fall and the levee project is scheduled to be completed in late summer 2015.
Army Corps of Engineers spokeswoman Alice Bufkin said only local traffic will be permitted through the work areas and signs will be posted to alert motorists they should use alternate routes.
The Army Corps’ Vicksburg district manages 68,000 square miles in Mississippi, Arkansas, and Louisiana including about 460 miles of primary protection levees.
