DEPEW, N.Y. (AP) - Police say a teenage driver is scheduled to be arraigned in western New York in connection with a hit-and-run accident that killed a 47-year-old man who was out for a morning walk.

Lt. Steven Berecz of Cheektowaga Police tells WIVB-TV (https://bit.ly/1mFd8Ut ) that an 18-year-old was driving north on Borden Road in Depew around 7 a.m. Sunday when he hit the man from behind.

Berecz says the driver got out of the Mustang, looked at what happened, and drove away. An off-duty officer saw him and followed the car, stopping it a mile away.

Police didn’t immediately release the names of the driver or victim, saying they wanted to notify relatives first. The driver was being held overnight for arraignment Monday morning on charges including leaving the scene of an accident.
