GULFPORT, Miss. (AP) - A 41-year-old woman has been fined $1,000 for stealing a package from a shelf at the Picayune Carriere Annex Post Office on Jan. 28, 2013.

Sonya Katrice Davison, of Picayune, also was sentenced to six months of home confinement, three years of probation and 40 hours of community service.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office charged Davis in a bill of information filed April 9.

Davison waived the right to indictment and pleaded guilty May 27 to theft of mail matter.

U.S. District Court Judge Sul Ozerden sentenced her Thursday.

Davison faced a prison term of up to five years.
