LOS LUNAS, N.M. (AP) - The Los Lunas police department is getting a new K-9 team.

Following the recent retirement of Officer Horacio Deanda and his four-legged partner, Ricky, the department announced Monday it has selected a new handler and will be buying a new dog soon.

The department says Det. Santiago Beyal, an Army veteran who has served seven years on the force, will be trained as the new handler.

The dog hasn’t been selected yet, but will come from K-9 Services in Edgewood and will be used for tracking and apprehension as well as narcotics detection.
