NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) - Natchitoches police says they are investigating a battery that happened at Natchitoches Central High School that resulted in an 18-year-old being airlifted to a Shreveport hospital, where he’s listed in critical condition.

Police said in a news release received by The Town Talk (https://townta.lk/1q173q0 ) an ambulance was requested at the school shortly after noon on Monday.

They say medical personnel found the 18-year-old “on the ground unresponsive.”

The victim was first taken to Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, then airlifted to University Medical in Shreveport.

Police said detectives arrested a 16-year-old male and booked him with one count of second-degree battery. The suspect’s name was not released because of his age.

Police did not say how the 18-year-old student was injured.

A battery is described as unlawful physical contact.
