NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Police say eastbound Interstate 10 in eastern New Orleans remains closed for cleanup after a tank truck hauling 8,600 gallons of fuel overturned, exploded and burned in the median.

A Fire Department statement says the driver had face, arm and knee injuries but left the cab on her own. It says she told emergency officials she overturned when she swerved to avoid a vehicle that cut her off while she merged from Interstate 510.

Police spokesman Frank Robertson says the 24-year-old woman was taken to a hospital.

He says the fire department’s hazardous materials team is working to clean up the wreckage.

Eastbound traffic was diverted at the Lake Forest/Chalmette exit.

The fire department says 20 New Orleans fire crews and crews from neighboring St. Bernard Parish fought the blaze.
