NEW ORLEANS (AP) - A small section of the facade on historic Gallier Hall fell to the sidewalk, damaging steps at the entrance to the former New Orleans City Hall.

WWL-TV reports (https://bit.ly/1swmkxI ) the 5-foot stone section fell Tuesday from the ornate rim along the roofline of the antebellum building and broke into two pieces, damaging six granite steps.

No injuries were reported.

City crews barricaded the front of the building along St. Charles Avenue as they began to clean up.

Gallier Hall served as City Hall from its completion in 1853 until the 1950s, when the present New Orleans City Hall opened elsewhere in the business district.

It is now used for special events and receptions.
