WHEELING, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia coal miner has been sentenced to two years’ probation for falsifying safety records at an Ohio County mine.

U.S. Attorney William Ihlenfeld on Monday announced the sentencing of 32-year-old Sean A. Chase of Spencer in federal court.

Chase was convicted earlier this year of making false representations and certifications in mine safety records and making a false statement to a federal agent.

The government says Chase falsely claimed to be a mine foreman while he was working at the Tunnel Ridge Mine and was qualified to perform mine safety exams.
