HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say 19 people have been indicted in a cocaine sweep that led investigators from California to New York.

Los Angeles law enforcers and Homeland Security agents seized about 44 pounds of cocaine last year. Authorities say it was prepared for delivery to a home in Amityville, New York.

All 19 of the indictments announced Wednesday are against residents of Suffolk County, New York.

Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota (SPOH’-tuh) says six of the suspects are charged with operating as a major drug trafficker.

Spota says the defendants “hid behind” legitimate jobs, including a taxi driver, house painter, insurance agent, landscaper and a day trader. Others owned a deli and a construction business.

Investigators also seized 19 handguns, 5 shotguns and 15 rifles, including an assault rifle.
