TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Rewards of up to $2,000 are being offered in connection with the poaching of five deer east of Tucson.

Arizona Game and Fish Department officials say the dead deer were found off the Redington Pass Road and were illegally killed last Thursday or Friday.

The dead included two fawns.

The Game and Fish Department’s Operation Game Thief program is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest in the case.

The Arizona chapter of Safari Club International and the Arizona Deer Association each are offering a $500 reward upon conviction of the person or persons responsible for shooting the deer.

Authorities say the maximum penalty for poaching is six months in jail and a $750 fine for each violation.
