GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) - Investigators say the son of a woman found dead in the desert north of Grand Junction has confessed to stabbing her with a screwdriver during a fight and then wrapping a bed sheet around her neck.

Thirty-one-year-old Daniel Stetzel has been in jail on an unrelated charge since Kathleen Stetzel’s body was found in late July and previously denied any involvement in her death. The Daily Sentinel (https://bit.ly/1mS9Xsz ) reports the five-time felon asked to speak to investigators last week and confessed Monday to killing his mother.

According to court documents, Stetzel said the fight started when his mother yelled at him for taking a cigarette off the table. He said the two have had fights since 2008, when he was sent to live in his mother’s home after being paroled.
