OLIVETTE, Mo. (AP) - A St. Louis County judge has ruled in favor of Olivette residents who want a more direct say in city officials’ use of public land.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports (https://bit.ly/1tBY3ZC ) Judge Thomas DePriest issued an order Tuesday to place a charter amendment on the Nov. 4 ballot. It would require future voter approval to sell, lease or dispose of city park land.

Residents gathered signatures earlier this year for the amendment that could block proposed private development at Warson Park.

County officials say residents obtained enough signatures in July but the city attorney questioned whether the proposal was legal.

Mayor Jean Antoine says the city will not challenge the ruling.
