SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A truck driver has been sentenced to a year in jail for failing to stop after a woman jumped or fell from his truck to her death on Interstate 5 in Santa Ana.

The Orange County Register reports (https://bit.ly/1tDxqnb ) 33-year-old Jaqwun Turner pleaded guilty this week to a felony hit-and-run charge in the death of Martha Rodezno.

The judge ordered Turner to turn himself in Oct. 10 to begin his sentence.

Turner says he met the 51-year-old Rodenzo at a gas station and she asked for a ride. He says she appeared upset and at one point opened the door and jumped from the moving truck. But prosecutors say it’s still unclear what exactly happened.

As part of the conviction, Turner’s commercial driver’s license was suspended for a year, and he’ll be on probation for five years.
