WEST MONROE, La. (AP) - West Monroe junior quarterback Jon Randall Belton has a torn ACL in the same knee he injured in 2013 and will miss the season after surgery Wednesday.

The News-Star reports (https://tnsne.ws/1AUOl78 ) Belton injured the knee early in Friday’s scrimmage versus Parkway.

NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports (https://bit.ly/XT0ATS) Belton is among Rivals.com’s top dual-threat quarterbacks in the 2016 class, and was one of the main reasons why West Monroe was projected to be make a run toward a Class 5A state championship.

West Monroe coach Jerry Arledge says senior Dustin Mitchell will move from linebacker to quarterback this week. Mitchell started five games for the Rebels at quarterback in 2013 when Belton injured his knee.

Sophomore Robert Foust will be the backup.
