SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - It’s Military Appreciation Day at Saratoga Race Course, with free admission for all U.S. military service members and veterans and special ceremonies honoring active duty members and veterans throughout the afternoon.

The New York Racing Association will pay tribute to its service member and veteran employees with a ceremony in the winner’s circle as United States Military Academy Master Sergeant MaryKay Messenger performs the National Anthem.

Later, veterans of World War II will ring the traditional Saratoga bell in the winner’s circle to mark the 70th anniversary of the D-Day invasion and the Battle of the Bulge.

Artwork will be on display from veterans participating in an art therapy program.

Representatives from several service member and veteran support groups will be on hand to provide information about their services.
