CENTERVILLE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) - A 17-year-old high school football player has become the second person to die as a result of a crash that followed a car stunt in the northwestern Lower Peninsula.

The Traverse City Record-Eagle and The Grand Rapids Press say Drake Hendershot of Empire died at Munson Medical Center.

Leelanau County authorities say a 17-year-old ran a stop sign Aug. 23 in Centerville Township to lift the car off the ground.

The sheriff’s department says the car struck a pickup truck, killing 31-year-old driver Brian Nachazel of Cedar.

The teen driver has been released from a hospital, while a third passenger remains hospitalized. Sixteen-year-old Peyton Picard of Maple City was in fair condition at Munson.

The teens were Maple City-Glen Lake High School football team mates.

The crash remains under investigation.
