PARIS (AP) - Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu has been called up for France’s upcoming friendlies against Spain and Serbia to replace injured Arsenal center back Laurent Koscielny.

Koscielny sustained a head injury in a clash with midfielder Jeffrey Schlupp in the 12th minute in Arsenal’s 1-1 draw with Leicester City in the Premier League on Sunday. He kept playing after receiving treatment but was replaced by Calum Chambers in the 27th.

Mathieu played in Barcelona’s 1-0 win over Villareal in the Spanish league on Sunday. He has two caps and last played for France in a 3-0 loss to Brazil in June 2013.

France hosts Spain on Sept. 4 and visits Serbia on Sept. 7.
