CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A Beckley native will be awarded the Purple Heart Medal for injuries he got in combat while deployed in Afghanistan.

U.S. Rep. Nick Rahall says Marine Cpl. Jason Clyburn will be presented the award during a ceremony on Thursday.

Rahall’s office says Clyburn was injured in 2011 while serving as a turret gunner on a mounted patrol. Clyburn’s lead vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device while on a route in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

The ceremony will be held at American Legion Post 32.

Clyburn is currently a Marine Reservist assigned to a company in Charleston.
