REDLANDS, Colo. (AP) - A Redlands resident who shot and killed a black bear attempting to get into a chicken coop has been cleared in the killing.
The (Grand Junction) Daily Sentinel reports (https://bit.ly/1ozlhgK ) that the shooting happened Sunday night in Redlands. A landowner shot and killed a bear that twice attempted to get into a chicken coop.
Officers with Colorado Parks and Wildlife responded to the incident and concluded that the landowner was justified. Landowners are permitted to shoot a bear or a wild animal if it is harassing livestock or a resident feels threatened for his or her life.
The Redlands area has experienced at least three separate incidents of bear sightings so far this summer.
