HUMBOLDT, Iowa (AP) - Humboldt City Council members are expressing their disapproval of Mayor Walter Jensen’s actions that resulted in a criminal mischief charge in May.

The Fort Dodge Messenger reports ( ) council member John Sleiter read the statement from the council members at a Monday meeting. Besides expressing disapproval of Jensen, the statement noted, “We hope that the mayor will take a hard look at whether this situation compromises his ability to effectively carry out the duties of his office.”

Jensen was charged with second-degree criminal mischief after allegedly using a key to scratch a vehicle owned by a man engaged to Jensen’s former girlfriend.

Court records show Jensen agreed to pay $1,500 to cover the damage cost. The man stated he’d drop charges in exchange for restitution.

Jensen declined to comment.
