NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - A man wanted in connection with a triple homicide in his native Mexico has been extradited from Arizona.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say 48-year-old Alberto Lira-Quintero was turned over to Mexican law enforcement authorities at the Nogales port of entry Monday.
They say a criminal arrest warrant was issued for Lira-Quintero in September 2010 by authorities in the Mexican state of Sinaloa. Details of the triple homicide case weren’t immediately available Tuesday.
Lira-Quintero was sent to an Arizona prison in December 2009 after a kidnapping conviction.
ICE officials say he was transferred to the Eloy Detention Center late last month after he completed his prison sentence and was held pending his extradition.
Lira-Quintero was previously convicted in the U.S. of attempted transportation of marijuana for sale in 2004.
