MONHEGAN, Maine (AP) - Maine Sens. Susan Collins and Angus King and Rep. Chellie Pingree traveled to Monhegan to celebrate the island’s 400th year anniversary.

The parade and ceremony on the tiny island Wednesday honored the anniversary of Cpt. John Smith’s visit to Monhegan Plantation in 1614. The parade was followed by a ceremony at the schoolhouse.

Monhegan Island, about 10 miles from the coastal town of Port Clyde, has less than 100 residents year-round, but draws thousands of tourists to its shores, particularly in the summer months.
