BERNARDS TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - State police are investigating what caused a fatal accident on Interstate 287 in central New Jersey.

The crash happened in Bernards Township just before 1:30 a.m. Thursday.

Trooper Alina Spies says a tractor-trailer collided with a sedan and overturned. Spies says the truck driver died after he was trapped while the vehicle was briefly engulfed in flames.

Spies says the driver of the sedan was not injured.

No names have been released.

The northbound lanes of I-287 were closed in the area until 7:30 a.m.
