MIAMI (AP) - A grand jury has indicted a man for the first-degree murder of an 11-year-old girl in Little Havana.

The indictment was handed down Wednesday. He’s expected to make a first appearance in court on Thursday.

Authorities say 42-year-old Miguel Ruiz Lobo was upset that his girlfriend had broken up with him when the broke into the woman’s home and fatally stabbed Martha Guzman on June 25. Her mother came home to find a knife sticking out of the child’s throat.

A neighbor’s surveillance video showed Lobo entering and leaving the home. Detectives say Lobo tried to make the death look like a suicide. But in stabbing the child he sliced through the tendons in her wrists, making that impossible.

The Miami Herald (https://hrld.us/XGI2FZ0 reports prosecutors may seek the death penalty.
