SHAWNEE, Okla. (AP) - A hearing has been delayed for a former university student who police say killed a classmate in Oklahoma to see how it would feel.

The Ada News (https://bit.ly/1mpL2fq ) reports a hearing for 20-year-old Jerrod Murray is now set for late October.

Murray was due in Pottawatomie County District Court on Wednesday, when he could have entered a new plea. But prosecutors requested a delay so a psychologist can examine him. His attorney has indicated he will raise insanity as a defense.

Murray has pleaded not guilty to a first-degree murder charge in the December 2012 death of East Central University student Generro Sanchez.

Prosecutors say Murray asked for a ride to Wal-Mart, then pulled a gun and told Sanchez to drive north. They say Murray shot Sanchez in the head as he begged for his life.
