KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) - The Kalamazoo County sheriff’s office is seeking volunteers for its reserve division.

Recruitment for the department’s Reserve Academy ends Sept. 15. The new academy is expected to start next January.

Reserves provide security at the annual county fair, ride on road patrol with deputies, work with deputies in the county jail, take part in the department’s Honor Guard and also are part of a rapid response team.

The academy is open to county residents who are at least 21. Recruits must pass background checks and drug screenings.
