METCALFE, Miss. (AP) - About 500 residents of Metcalfe will be assessed a $10 a month fee to help pay for installation of new natural gas meters.

Mayor Corey Holmes says the city had about 200 meters total that need to be replaced at a cost of $90 each. He says the overall cost of the work was about $300,000.

Holmes tells the Delta Democrat-Times (https://bit.ly/1kn9umd ) the town is looking into securing a grant to help pay for the meters.

Metcalfe has about 1,067 residents. Officials say the city is replacing about 50 meters a year.
