HARRISONVILLE, Mo. (AP) - The Missouri State Highway Patrol says a 65-year-old man died when the ambulance taking him to a hospital crashed during heavy rain.

The accident happened around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 49 near Harrisonville, about 35 miles south of Kansas City. Authorities identified the victim Thursday as Shelby N. Brandt, of Nevada (nuh-VAY’-duh), Missouri.

Highway Patrol Sgt. Bill Lowe says the driver of the ambulance from the Vernon County Ambulance District lost control when the back end started sliding on wet pavement. The ambulance went off the road and overturned.

A 23-year-old paramedic sitting with the patient suffered serious injuries and the 25-year-old driver suffered minor injuries.
