ST. FRANCISVILLE, La. (AP) - A fire has destroyed the gift shop at the Myrtles Plantation.

St. Francisville Fire Chief Thomas Robinson says the fire raged for a couple of hours Wednesday night before firefighters from several departments brought it under control.

Despite the proximity of the two buildings, Robinson said the main house suffered no damage.

With a goal of protecting the main house, Robinson told The Advocate (https://bit.ly/1ur0ixH ) firefighters used an interior attack, going inside with a hose to battle the fire from within the building.

He says the cause of the fire is under investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office.

The plantation is billed as “One of America’s Most Haunted Homes.”
